From RSPB Blogger Tiger, 5 March 2011:
Meanwhile in the last few hours the first osprey of the season has arrived at Blackwater Maryland. That seems a very early bird. American osprey fans will be so pleased to see their birds return this year as so many are believed to have perished in the journey south last autumn.

From Lisa:
Photographer Bob Quinn and I had been watching an osprey nest in the Blackwater River
that seemed to have 3 chicks. But over the weekend, Bob snapped a photo showing 4 chicks in the
nest! We're not sure if one had been hiding in the platform all this time (it's not that big a nest!)
or if one chick was a visitor. Osprey chicks are known for sometimes checking out a neighboring nest.
And if they're really lucky, they might even get fed during the visit.

Sad news from Aberfoyle
lucinda 15 Jun 2011 11:42 AM
Today we bring you some sad news - the Aberfoyle osprey nest has failed.
The female stopped incubating her eggs just over a week ago, and they've now gone cold with no hope of hatching. We're not too sure why this happened, but it might have something to do with the weather.
We are still seeing the male bringing in fish for her, plus there are lots of red squirrels around. And with a blue tit and a barn owl family on camera, there's still plenty to see on your visit to Aberfoyle!

Intruder osprey - June 29th
Another intruder osprey this afternoon. She had a white Darvic ring on the left leg indicating she is probably a Scottish female, possible a young bird.

... probably a Scottish female, possible a young bird.. hmm..
Found this link in the Loch Garten Ospreys Forum.
It's about Rutland Male Ospreys, ringed and tagged by Roy Dennis on 28 June.
There are good pictures of a satellite tag!

Niin hienon tarinan toit tänne Millan, kiitos siitä.
All the birds have flown up and gone; A lonely cloud floats leisurely by. We never tire of looking at each other - Only the mountain and I. -Li Po-
Mielenkiintoinen juttu Ursula-sääksestä. Ei ihan ehtinyt Ladyn ikään, mutta ehti kuitenkin tuottaa kunnioitettavat yli 40 poikasta. Katsotaan mitä on huomenna painetussa lehdessä.

A bird does not sing because it has an answer; it sings because it has a song. - Chinese proverb
Tämän päivän painetussa Kainuun Sanomissa oli sanasta sanaan sama juttu, kuin eilisessä e-versiossa.
